Delta Task Force Nabs Herbalist Running Orthodox Clinic

JULY 7TH (URHOBOTODAY) A herbalist operating an illegal orthodox clinic, who went into hiding on sighting Delta State Joint Taskforce on the activities of quacks with a view to sanitising the health sector has been arrested.
The herbalist, identified as Prince Samuel was apprehended in one of the rooms in the building housing the clinic located on Ejere Street, Off Afisere Road, Ughelli.

On sighting the vehicle conveying the monitoring team, the wife of the herbalist locked up the clinic and hid their operating equipment. Every attempt to find out from the woman about the operational method of the quack hospital proved abortive as she was unwilling to divulge any information.
It took the doggedness of the team to gain access and uncover various activities of the clinic such as administering of injections, training of nurses and abortion room. The team also discovered that the operator of the clinic was hiding inside one of the rooms in the building.
Samuel who is nursing a 13-year sore on his right leg, admitted that he went beyond his scope by venturing into orthodox medicine practice and pleaded for leniency.
The leader of the taskforce, Dr. Alfred Ebiakofa, noted that though the clinic owner is a licensed herbalist, he had gone beyond his scope of operation and wondered how a man could be allowed to practise as a “Traditional Birth Attendant (TBA). “TBA is usually done by women. I have never seen a situation where males engaged in TBA activities, except if it is his wife that does that,” he stated.
