Attempt by secondary school cultists to attack and set Umunede Division Police post ablaze was aborted by policemen from Delta State Police headquarters, Asaba, led by Delta State Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr Taiwo Lakanu.
In course of wading the suspected cultist from Ede Grammar School and Comprehensive High School, both in Umunede, no fewer than 50 of the cultist were arrested.

Announcing the arrest at the premises of Delta State Police Headquarters on Friday, Lakanu said the division responded to a distress call that cultists had invaded the schools, adding that in course of making arrest, one Ikelechi, whose surname was unknown, was shot in the process and rushed to Agbor where he was confirmed dead.
Lakanu said the team responded based on the information, adding that his men arrested 17-year- old Stephen Jerry of Ede Grammar School.
“The cultists numbering about 50, attacked the police station with intent to burn it. The Divisional Police Officer mobilized and dispersed them. Chinedu Osemene and Roland Abiamuwe were arrested for damaging the station’s sign post. Items recovered from them included one locally made pistol, a live cartridge, two guns and two packets of knockout fire devices. Efforts are in top gear to arrest the fleeing cultists,” Lakanu confirmed.
