The befitting edifice apart from serving the most singular aim of bringing the Urhobos especially those that stays within the Asaba axis together, was also intended to serve as a reservoir of knowledge centre where the Urhobo language will be taught to the younger ones and those who are not yet vast in the language.
This was disclosed by the President of Asaba branch of Urhobo Progress Union (UPU), Engr. Eghwubare Aloku, while speaking in an interview with our correspondent recently in Asaba.
Engr. Aloku an alumni of the University of Ibadan said plans are at advance stage towards realizing the noble objectives of the long over due Urhobo House in Asaba, just as it was the case in some other major cities across the country.
The UPU President who was full of gratitude to His Excellency, Governor Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan for not only granting their application for a piece of land for the project but has also issued the Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) for the said land, said he sees no reason why an Urhobo man cannot contest and win councillorship seat in Asaba even when the Ibos especially have successfully done that in many parts of the country.
Engr. Aloku who was one time Chairman and President of Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and Rotary Club respectively, appealed to Urhobo sons and daughters in and around the country to take it as a point of duty to attend and donate generously towards the realization of the set objectives during the launch of the N150, 000,000.00 Ultra-Modern Cultural/Event Centre project in Asaba, scheduled for the 19th of January, 2013.
The UPU branch President who said the Asaba branch has a smooth and cordial working relationship with the parent body of the Union, under the leadership of Gen. Patrick Aziza (rtd), states further that the epoch making event holding at the Association of Senior Civil Servants Auditorium, Asaba will have the Executive Governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan (CON) as Special Guest of Honour, Prof. Amos Utuama, Deputy Governor of Delta State as Guest of Honour, while the duo of Olorogun O’tega Emerho (OON) and Chief (Barr.) Charles Obule will serve as Chief Launcher and Co-launcher in that order.
