Tragedy struck in Ughelli, Delta State, as a middle-aged man (names withheld), was electrocuted to death while trying to fix a faulty electricity cable supplying power from a new generation bank to his building.
The deceased’s residence was directly located behind a new generation bank on Market Road in the area and he was said to have sold the land to the bank.

Sources said that the electrocuted man had been granted permission by the bank to power his building from its electrical plant in return, following the power outage in the area that has persisted for over one month.
A witness told Community News that the deceased, had successfully laid the cables underneath the ground to his residence before the tragedy struck.
The source, who would not want his identity disclosed, stated that the deceased on Friday, detected some leakages resulting from electrical connections in his house after about two weeks of usage.
The deceased, according to the source, traced the fault to the area where the cables were buried and was excavating the soil when his shovel ripped open the rubber coating and in the process electrocuted.
Speaking further, the witness said the deceased gave up the ghost as he was being whisked in his car to a nearby hospital, adding that his corpse had been deposited in the hospital’s mortuary.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Delta State, Mr Charles Muka, did not pick calls put to him by Community News, neither did he reply the text messages sent to him.
