Uduaghan Scraps Fees for Civil Service Job Applications

LAGOS JANUARY 10TH (URHOBOTODAY)- – Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has stopped the payment of N1000 for online applications for job openings in the civil service as advertised by the Delta State Civil Service. The Governor also warned civil servants to desist from collecting money from individuals seeking employment into the state’s civil service.
The Governor, who was responding to the information that applicants for advertised jobs were paying money to apply online, directed the Head of Service to stop such collection of fees and that those who have paid the sum of N1, 000 for the forms should have their money back.
Fielding questions from Journalists in Asaba, Delta State, the Governor said it was wrong for applicants for jobs to be made to pay any fee.
“As long as I remain the Governor of Delta State, nobody will pay any money to get employment,” he stated.
The Governor used the occasion to state that the ‘Delta Beyond Oil’ initiative was designed to create job opportunities for Deltans, stating that the programme which will be inherited by the incoming administration was designed to position Deltans not to rely solely on revenue from oil but to look at other sources of revenue.
While noting that it was commendable that Nigerians have imbibed the mantra to work for a country that will not be solely dependent on revenue from oil, the Governor said, Delta State is now an investors’ destination.
He assured that his administration was determined to make Delta State a better place, disclosing, his administration is determined to make the State one of the cleanest states in the country.
“This is a state where we are conscious about our environment, we are deploying a lot of manpower for the sweeping of our streets and the clearing of our wastes,” the Governor said, disclosing that while the installation of waste recycling plant is almost completed in Asaba, there has been approval for the plant to also be established in major towns in the state, especially, Warri.
He stated that once these plants are put into use, dump sites for wastes in the state will become a thing of the past and it will improve the cleanliness of the state, adding that clean environment reduces diseases and makes it possible for people to breath clean air.
“We must imbibe the attitude of cleanliness because that is the only way we can check our health challenges and get clean air,” the Governor said.
Dr Uduaghan also used the occasion to observed that water supply are not regular in the rural areas because of lack of maintenance culture for the water projects, stating that his administration has concluded plans to set up water committees in different communities in the state.
He stated that the water committees would ensure that water flows regularly and the generators are serviced, stating: “we are going into partnership with the communities to set up water committees.”
The Governor who expressed sadness that most of the water projects in the state are not functional due to lack of maintenance, reiterated that it was wrong for well intentioned programmes of government not to be sustained.
