LAGOS JANUARY 9TH (URHOBOTODAY)—Political activities in Delta State have stepped up in the past few days, with consultations ongoing among the various interest groups and individuals on who will succeed incumbent Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan in 2015.
Already, stakeholders have started holding late night meetings with their choice contenders to perfect strategy, while awaiting official pronouncement from the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP., in the state.
State Chairman of PDP, Chief Peter Nwaoboshi, had recently, said that the leadership of the party would make its position known by next month (February) on where exactly the governorship candidate would emerge from.
Reacting to the contentious issue of whether there was zoning in the party or not, he said “I want to say categorically that we should not be derogatory in our statements because there is no zone or senatorial district that does not have capable people to occupy the governorship seat.”
Meantime, Publicity Secretary of the Urhobo Political Forum, UPF, Chief. Ejaife Odebala, said yesterday, in Asaba that “UPF is out to ensure the Urhobo nation was not short-changed in 2015.
“The UPF has been the platform for the actualisation of the Urhobo political interest for a long time. It has been very effective. Now, as the general political landscape is moving, it is good for that formidable body to start gearing up to satisfy the Urhobo yearnings.
“The 2015 election is part of the agenda of UPF. And this is the only forum that can effectively negotiate the Urhobo interest for the benefit of all while striving for balance relationship with other ethnic nationalities in the state.”
“My advice is that politicians should take it easy, so as not to overheat the polity. We should have respect for each other and let me tell you that no district can produce governorship without the support of the other two.”
