Urhobo Monarchs, Igbuya, Omene, Others to Attend Launch of Graceland Diabetes Medical Centre

LAGOS SEPTEMBER 21ST (URHOBOTODAY)-HRM Orhue 1, Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, Gen Mujakperue, Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, HRM Emmanuel Sideso, President of Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) Chief Joe Omene and Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, Hon Monday Igbuya are some of the important dignitaries expected at the launch of Graceland Diabetes Foundation High Blood Pressure and Diabetes Medical Centre at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) Conference Centre, Effurun, Warri, Delta State on September 26th, 2015, by 12 noon prompt.
Other dignitaries expected at the ceremony according to a statement signed by the Founder and Chief Executive Office of Graceland Diabetes Foundation, Mrs. Mercy Ekpoke are Hon (Chief) James Augoye, Chief O’tega Emerhor,Chief Great Ogboru, Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, Justice Overah, Tony Edema, Chief Okpoko (SAN), Urhobo traditional rulers and members of Urhobo Social Club among others.
The statement explained that Graceland Diabetes Foundation a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) registered under Corporate Affairs Commission in Nigeria in 2013 with Reg. No CAC/IT/NO 61093 offer free screening and advisory services for diabetes and its twin ailment hypertension to people in the communities that otherwise would have difficulties accessing such services. The Clinic also treat diabetes patients, offer diet support and educate patients.
“The construction of a centre is the next phase of our service to the people and we appeal for the support of organizations and well meaning Nigerians. The project is sited in Orerokpe, Ethiope-East LGA and will be of immense benefit to the people of Delta State. This is the very first Diabetes and High Blood Pressure Management Centre in the state,” the statement said.
Mrs Ekpoke explained that the reasons for the need of establishment of a diabetes medical centre is to provide patient with self management skills, maximize the effectiveness of medical treatment, inform patients about the latest in diabetes treatment and research, encourage daily activity and healthy lifestyle and to reduce the risk of the long term complication of diabetes.

  1. Good news. This must be followed by an enlightenment campaign that encourages all to make it a habit to regularly check their blood sugar levels as well as blood pressure at the center. Whoever thought up this idea deserves all the support required to make it a success story. The results would begin to show in 3 years after inception.
