Kidnappers Besiege Ogun Communities, Abduct Cinematographer in Ibafo, Wife, Children at Ijon
LAGOS JULY 11TH (URHOBOTODAY)-There are tensions and fear in Oguu state as kidnappers lay siege to the communities.
Urhobotoday learnt that kidnappers broke into the home of a 35years old cinematographer, Joel Benson at Ibafo, Ogun State through one of the windows which they vandalized and gained entrance into his bedroom.
After gaining entrance into Benson’s home they had demanded for telephone handsets, Laptops and money, which were freely given to them. The kidnappers, feeling unsatisfied abducted the ‘man of the house’, Benson.
Speaking to Urhobotoday on telephone, his wife, Ego Benson said the hoodlums have called demanding for N50million ransom.
According to her, “They came in through the window, they took our telephones, laptops, ipad. They took some money but I don’t know how much they took. When they came in demanding for all these things, we thought they are armed robbers.
“They were demanding for money, they also asked to know who the man of the house is, my husband identified himself and they took him away. My husband was crying on telephone, telling me to call anyone I know to raise the money. They called in the morning and they also called at about 2.20pm and demanded for N50million ransom.”
Also, residents of the sleeping Ijon community, a border village between Ogun and Lagos were also gripped by fear and apprehension following the invasion of their village by dare-deviled kidnap kingpins.
The eight-man kidnap gang had at the wee hour of Monday stormed the premises of Oluseun Oguyemi, and abducted his wife and three children.
Ogunyemi escaped and contacted the Traditional ruler of the community (Baale).
The Police allegedly gave the hoodlums a hot chase and got them near the river.
It was gathered that the hoodlums suspected to be killer squad from a neighbouring village in Ogun State engaged the Police in a gun battle, which lasted for about 45 minutes.
At the end of the war, the hoodlums abandoned their victims and escaped in a speedboat.
The fear of some residents is that the hoodlums may come back again since the police thwarted their first attempt.
Ogun State Police boss, Abdulmajid Ali who is on a short vacation said his men have swung into action.
“We are working on it. The media needs to support us to clean up our neighbourhood of cult boys and hoodlums. Our detectives have been deployed and we are working with members of Benson’s family to ensure he is released without harm.”
Ogun State has been a hot bed for kidnappers and blood letting in the past few weeks.
Some suspected militants in a border community between Ogun and Lagos State killed no fewer than 20 persons recently.
