Graceland Takes Free Diabetes Screening, Ebola Awareness Campaign to Delta Communities

LAGOS SEPTEMBER 20TH (URHOBOTODAY)-In continuation of its free diabetes and high blood pressure awareness campaigns screening exercise group under the aegis of Graceland Diabetes Foundation is extending the exercise to five communities in Delta State. Of interest in the latest exercise is the inclusion of creation of awareness campaign on the prevention of the deadly Ebola disease.
A press statement signed by the Founder of Graceland Diabetes Foundation, Mrs. Mercy Ekpoke made available to URHOBOTODAY an online medium said the free diabetes, high blood screening and Ebola campaign awareness exercise would be held at Jeddo, Gbokodo, Ughoton, Amadino and Ubeji communities located in Delta State, adding that the exercise would kick start at on September 25th, 2014, at Jeddo Town Hall in Jeddo, Warri South LGA, Delta Sttae by 8.00 am.
Before now, the Foundation had taken the campaign to Sapele, Osubi and several Okpe communities where thousands of diabetes and high blood pressure patients were screened and educated on how to manage the ailment. Drugs for the ailment running into thousand of Naira were equally provided to them free of charge by the Foundation.
Ekpoke explained that they have to add creation of awareness on the prevention of Edola disease to their programme because of the need to contain the spread of the deadly disease.
Ekpoke disclosed that the aims of Graceland Diabetes Foundation is to give basic fundamental definition of the ailment “Diabetes”, provide basic help and support to diabetes patients, create awareness to diabetes and hypertension patients of the dangers of developing coronary heart disease and educate patients on the risk of developing heart attack and stroke advised those coming for the screening and awareness campaign to come to the venue without eating so as to achieve better diagnostic result.
Graceland Diabetes Foundation is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), registered in Nigeria by concern citizen committed to uplifting the health and living condition of Nigerians, especially the less privileged. Established by health care personnel trained in United Kingdom with civil society bias, they offer free screening and advisory services for Diabetes and its twin aliment Hypertension, to people in communities that otherwise would have difficulty accessing such services. They have the obligation to Nigerians to help eradicate sudden death caused by these killer diseases.
Diabetes and Hypertension, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), are two silent diseases that are getting increasingly prevalent in our society. Owing to widespread ignorance in our country, the group is complementing the work of government and the health authorities to bring awareness, which is the first step to relief, to people across Nigeria.
Life is to be lived in good health and well being. Therefore, help to eradicate these silent killers and put a smile on the less privileged by saving a life today.
