LAGOS AUGUST 26TH (URHOBOTODAY)-In line with the amended law of Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), the state House of Assembly yesterday received 13 nominees from Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for consideration and appointment into the reconstituted governing board of the commission.
A letter to that effect was received from the governor by the Speaker of the House, Hon. Monday Igbuya, who formally presented same to the the lawmakers at the yesterday’s plenary in Asaba.
The Deputy Majority Leader of the assembly, Hon. Preyor Kenneth, moved for the acceptance of Okowa’s letter conveying the list of nominees for composition of the governing board of DESOPADEC while Mr. Anthony Emeka representing Ika North-East seconded the motion.
Subsequently, the legislature scheduled the screening and confirmation of the nominees for today August 26, 2015 in the chambers of the state house of assembly.
The DESOPADEC governing board nominees include Hon. Godwin Ebosa as Chairman-designate, Chief William Makinde for Managing Director while Chief Askia Ogieh and Hon Chris Ochor Ochor are for executive directors.
Other nominees who are the representatives of oil producing areas in the state include Mr. Philip Gbasin, Chief Amos Itiwhe, Chief Pius Ovbije as well as Messrs Jonathan Amitaye, Ovie Oghoore, Thomas Ereyitomi, Nnamdi Ezechi, Fidelis Chukwuwinke Oputa and Chief Favour Izoukumor.
The governor’s letter which was read on the floor of the house at plenary stated in part, “I will greatly appreciate if early action is taken to place the names of the nominees before the assembly for consideration and confirmation, to enable me effect their appointments as required by law.”
The governor’s letter on the reconstitution of the DESOPADEC board actually prompted the Delta assembly to reconvene under emergency situation yesterday (Tuesday) having adjourned till September 1, 2015.
