Delta: Youth Leader Blasts Urhobo Lawmakers, Councilors, Political Appointees for Depending on Allocation
LAGOS MARCH 4TH (URHOBOTODAY)-The Managing Director of Vinefon Oil and Gas Company, Mr. Frank Efole has lambasted Urhobo indigenes elected as Chairman of Local Government, Councillors, political appointees and those appointed into Delta State House of Assembly for lacking the initiative to generate funds for development of their various constituencies.
He said instead of them looking inward for fund generation they are rather dependent on allocation from the state government.
Speaking with Urhobotoday correspondent in Warri Delta State, Efole said, “I want Governor Okowa to call the Delta state house of assembly members, chairmen of local government council, councilors and state house of assembly lawmakers from Urhobo constituencies to order and they should be called to develop their communities, wards and constituencies. They can create job and generate revenue without being finance by the state. If they don’t have the skills to do it, they should look for those who can do it these people are sleeping.”
Describing the council chairmen, members of delta state house of assembly and counselors representing Urhobos as sleeping leaders, he said, “Go to UDU and UVWIE local governments council nothing is happening. Look at our road everywhere is dirty. If you look at the state no local government council chairman is working.”
The youth leader who said the state government can only compliment the effort of the leaders if they are working well noted, “I want to call the governor to call the house of assembly people, council chairmen, councilors, from Urhobo areas, by given them the assignment to clean up their councils. All the council in Urhobo land are too dirty. Lagos, Akwa-Ibom, Calabar are been developed not even by their state governors but the house of assembly members, councilors, and council chairmen. The awareness is not there that is why Delta State is different. No maintenance culture, no production, they just wait for allocation”. The Urhobo youth Leader lambasted both elected and appointed political office holders that after winning their elections there are no longer accessible to the masses.
He noted that councils can generate funds by sanctioning and fining motorist and keke who park wrongly.
“It happened in Lagos. There is no discipline in Delta State. People pack anywhere and everywhere they like. If governor Okowa does not release money for them, they don’t do anything, that is a failure on their part,” he noted just as he advised council chairman to employ the services of maintenance, financial and management experts to generate fund for the council.
Everything about what the youth leader said is truth. Allocation from Delta State government should not be the only means for Urhobo local government to survive. Sometimes i keep on asking myself the same question “what is the work of a local government chairman”? “what is the work of a counselors “? what present and future plan do they have for the people and the land? There are so many things that are happening that is not right. Put all Urhobo citizens together, am sure we are not up to 2.5 million people, yet we find it difficult to take care of our own. I know one day God will use person like me to take Urhobo lands to the next step.
