LAGOS AUGUST 8TH (URHOBOTODAY)-Group under the aegis of Delta Women has decried the lope-sided appointment of members of the newly inaugurated Delta State 31-Man Advisory and Peace Building Committee.
Frowning at the poor representation of only six women in the Committee, Chief Executive Officer of Delta Women, Elsie Reed noted that the composition of the Committee is not in line with global trends in conflict prevention, conflict resolution and transformation, as well as post-conflict reconciliation and peace management in developed clime.
She argued that the Committee which had been in existence since 2000 and is indeed expected to strengthen the foundation of the unity of the State is otherwise doing the opposite hence its membership is composed of only those from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), rather than cut across the state.
She further argued that the composition of the Committee being members of PDP alone, Deltans who are non-partisan or are members of other political parties, have no say in strengthening the foundation of their beloved state.
