Delta: Vandals Besiege Deputy Governor’s Home, Commissioners Quarters
LAGOS SEPYEMBER 5TH (URHOBOTODAY)-Stern-faced security operatives at the official residence of Delta state deputy governor, Prof. Amos Utuama, in Asaba the state capital, have failed to deter dare-devil thieves that specialize in removing parts, especially the brain boxes of exotic cars.
The thieves allegedly scaled the high perimeter fencing at the deputy governor’s residence, headed to the car park where they vandalised all the vehicles parked in the premises at the time of the invasion.
Sources said the thieves made away with nine brain boxes valued at not less than N1.8 million.
Besides, the hoodlums invaded the Commissioners’ Quarters where they vandalised parts of various vehicles of no fewer than five commissioners.
Moreover, the hoodlums also removed undisclosed amount of money from the vehicles and other valuables that were kept there for safety reasons.
The development has led to the immediate redeployment of all security personnel drafted to the lodge while the domestic staff who were accused of complicity in the theft, had been sent packing allegedly on the order of the deputy governor.
But a source close to the deputy governor kept mum over the sacking of domestic staff at the lodge and the redeployment of security personnel.
“I am not aware of any robbery incident at the lodge of the deputy governor. I am not also aware if anybody was sacked but what I can say is that there was a security breach and I am not competent to speak on security issues,” the source said.
When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of Delta state police command, ASP Lucky Uyabeme, said his office was yet to be briefed on any robbery incident in government quarters.
