LAGOS MAY 4TH (URHOBOTODAY) The stage is now set for the general election of the Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria (CRAN) as the electoral committee, at the weekend, concluded the screening exercise of all contestants for the executive membership of the group.
The election, slated for 6th May 2016 at the Sir Mike Okiro Press Centre, Oduduwa Crescent, Ikeja GRA, Lagos is to elect new executive members of the association to pilot its affairs for the next three years, following the expiration of the Christopher Oji of the Sun Newspaper led executive.
Urhobotoday reliably learnt that those who were successful at the screening which are to lock horn against each other the coming election include the crime reporter of Guardian Newspaper, Odita Sunday, who would battle the senior correspondent of New Nigerian Newspaper, Raymond Tedunjaye for the chairmanship of the association.
For the vice-chairmanship position, Xavier Ndah of Union Newspaper will engage Bosa Achike of National Light, Moses Omorogieva of News Agency of Nigeria takes on Chiemele Adaobi of Thisday Newspaper for the Secretaryship, Andrew Utulu of Independent versus Evelyn Usman of Vanguard Newspaper, while Taiwo Jimoh of New Telegraph will slug it out with Ebele Boniface of Nation Newspaper for the Financial Secretaryship position.
Other contestants, but without opponents are Niran Odufayo of Radio Nigeria, Assistant Secretaryship and Matthew Dike of Leadership Newspaper for the post of Internal Auditor.
The election, which was earlier scheduled for 29th April, 2016, according to the electoral committee headed by Eugene Agha of Daily Trust Newspaper, was postponed to enable it complete the process for a free, fair and credible election.
CRAN, an affiliate of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), is the national body for all journalists from the print, electronic and online outfits accredited to police affairs, other security and para- military agencies.
