Urhobo Youths Frown at Calumny Campaign, Abuse of Social Media

urhoboland
LAGOS FEBRUARY 27TH (URHOBOTODAY)- Ahead of the forthcoming general elections and the peace accord endorsed by candidates of various political parties across the federation, the Urhobo Progress Union, Youth Wing (Ighele ri Urhobo) has frowned at the various inter political party campaign attacks being witnessed both on the part of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, the All Progressive Congress, Labour Party and others.
Describing the act as inimical to democratic stability and a violation of the purported peace accord signed by these political parties, the President of the organisation, Comrade Ovie Igho Anthony, ‘’No man can give what he doesn’t have, we cannot claim to desire a peaceful election, yet our campaign strategies both media and otherwise reflect war and violence.
“What we see on our television today, what we hear on our radios today and even what we see physically during campaign rallies, etc, are in sharp contrast with what our leaders propagate. We the youths are the future leaders, we are the trustees of posterity, the strength of a nation. We must not allow politicians to use us as instrument to destroy the course of a peaceful, free, credible and fair election as it is the only way to ensure that we take our rightful place in destiny tomorrow.”
Anthony advised youths against wrong use of the social media. He particularly condemned the high spate of calumny, character assassination and pull him down syndrome being displayed by the youths on behalf of their principals via social media, adding that such attitude is inimical to democratic process as well as the anticipated peace path in the forthcoming elections.
