Stampede Trails BVN Registration in London as Embassy Collects 30 Pounds Fees
LAGOS JULY 17TH (URHOBOTODAY)-There was confusion and stampede at the premises of Nigeria High Commission in London, United Kingdom, when Nigerians resident in the country were invited to register for the ongoing Bank Verification Number (BVN) exercise.
According to URHOBOTODAY source, the already tense situation became heightened when someone called the police to inform them about the chaotic situation at the Embassy over the registration exercise.
To put the chaotic crowd under control, the chaotic crowd were locked out of the embassy premises and this action resulted in a more chaotic situation with people pushing over themselves to gain advantagious position.
Beside, those who have accounts in Nigerian banks who went to the embassy for registration complained about the exorbitant charging fees of thirty pounds which are required to pay before registration.
They wondered why they should be made to pay such outrageous fees when it is free in Nigeria.
“ Thought is going to be smooth sailing as I was told yesterday that BVN for disporal begins in London. I didn’t know it is going to be the same way as it went in Nigeria,” a Nigerian resident in London voiced his anger.
Our source, who claimed the Nigeria High Commission in London needs an urgent overhaul, lamented that they were treated like animals in Fleet street London all because they went for BVN registration. According to him, “Things soon became chaotic and someone called police on us. They allowed us converge on the street and then locked us out. We are also being forced to pay 30.00 pounds each as registration fees, but none of the officials or the website can explain what the money is meant for. Is it not free in Nigeria?”
