LAGOS MAY 1ST (URHOBOTODAY)-Commissioner representing Ethiope-East and Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State Oil Producing Area Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Rt. Hon. (Chief) Obiuwevbi Ominimini has donated 250 student’s desk and 250 teachers’ tables and chairs worth millions of naira to six schools in his constituency area of Ughelli North.
Schools that benefited are Ufuoma Secondary School, 50 student desk and 40 teachers’ tables and chairs; Oharisi Secondary School, 50 student desk and 60 teachers’ tables and chairs;Afisere Secondary School, 50 student desk and 45 teachers’ tables and chairs; Ovwodawanre Primary School, 50 student desk and 30 teachers’ tables and chairs;Uwherun Primary School 50 student desk and 40 teachers’ tables and chairs while Oharisi Primary School received 30teachers’ tables and chairs.
Ominimini noted that the disbursement of student desk and teachers table and chairs to schools by DESOPADEC flagged off in 2014 and is still ongoing until every student and teacher has a seat to call their own. According to him “at DESOPADEC, what we concentrate on is the development of the oil producing communities, and development can only come if the people are educated.
“We listen to the yearnings and aspirations of the people in the mandate communities daily in order to proffer solutions, that is why when principals, head teachers and community leaders cried to us that their schools lacked student desk and teachers table and chairs, we conducted a need analysis and discovered that these people were really in dire need of these educational facilities. It is on the basis of that that we are giving out these educational facilities.
More so, our amiable governor Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan who is finishing strong is a man that has passion for education and development. In fact Uduaghan believes that no matter how big it is money spent on human resources is never a waste. So we have keyed into the programme of the state governor at DESOPADEC and we will be storming more schools with student desk and teachers’ table and chairs.
Receiving the educational facilities from the commissioner, Mr. Odenema Godspower, Mr. Otaye Patrick (JP), Mr. Amaja Alexander, Chief Hon. Macpherson Igbidi, community leader from Uwherun, Mr. Akpovona J.S, and Mrs. Omugbe Elizabeth described Rt. Hon. (Chief) Obiuwevbi Ominimini as a grassroot leader who listens to the voice of the people. They prayed that God will continue to promote, uplift and bless his ExcellencyDr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan and the chairman of the board of DESOPADEC.
While some of them acknowledged that this was the second or third disbursement of students desks and teachers table and chairs they were receiving from DESOPADEC, others were ecstatic as this meant the end to students sitting on the floor to learn in their schools .They however assured the commissioner that they will maintain and secure the facilities, “we are going to effectively put to use this desk, tables and chairs, we will maintain them, these seats are going to be well taken care ofonce they are evenly distributed and we are going to ensure that the quality of teaching and learning improve as we now have a very conducive environment.”
A small step in the right direction but I never knew that just 250 desk and chairs could cost millions of Naira. Haaaah, Oga God deh see una o!
