Delta State University Workers Raises Alarm over Harassment of Council Task Force (PHOTOS)
LAGOS SEPTEMBER 19TH (URHOBOTODAY)-Delta State University, Abraka workers made up of academic and non academic staff have raised the alarm over the excesses and harassment by Ethiope-East local government task force whom they claimed have been unleashing serious hardship on motorists in the guise of tire-lock.
The workers complained to Urhobotoday an online medium that although Abraka is a University community hosting the prestigious Delta State University, the presence of government activities is totally zero, adding that the victims of the council’s thugs camouflaging task force are mostly staff and visitors of Delta State University (DELSU).
“The state of the roads in Abraka are nothing to write home about. Illegal structures have taken a sizeable part of the old road repaired recently by the DELSU new Vice Chancellor, Prof Victor Peretomode. There is no parking space for motorists,” the enraged workers of DELSU complained.
According to them, the taskforce thugs who always invoke the name of Ethiope-East local government Chairperson, Hon Faith Majemite’s as their madam, extort between N1000-N5000 from their victims, adding that at times they physically molest motorists.
“Investigation revealed that the thugs do make returns to top officials of the council. Abraka is the only community in the entire Ethiope East where such barbaric practice still take place. And feelers have it that it is because Abraka is in the opposition,” Urhobotoday source revealed.
The workers lamented that the activities of the thugs camouflaging as council task force have brought a bad image to the already battered image of PDP in the area, just as they warned that if nothing is done to resolve the already bad situation , the citizens may take laws into their hands.
