Delta: ‘Okada’ Riders Jubilate in Ughelli as New Council Chairman Bans Sales of Ticket

LAGOS OCTOBER 30TH (URHOBOTODAY)-Commercial Motorcyclist popularly known ‘Okada’ turned Ughelli into a
festive town on Wednesday as the newly sworn in Chairman of Ughelli North L.G.A, Hon. Kenneth Ibru stopped further sale of ticket to commercial motorcycle riders in the town.
Ibru official pronouncement put an end to the
sales of ticket that has been sold to commercial motorcycle riders in the L.G.A over the past two years.
It would be recalled that commercial motorcycle riders in the town have been forced to buy a daily ticket for seventy naira against their wish.
The Local Government boss fulfilled his electoral promise of banning
the sales of ticket if elected into the office.
While making the pronouncement, the council boss described the sales
of ticket to commercial motorcycle riders as illegal and uncalled for. He said his administration would do everything to ensure that only legal things are done in the L.G.A.
After the ban, hundreds of motorcycle riders took to the street, displaying with their motorcycles in happiness.
Some of the motorcycle riders, who spoke to Urhobotoday crew, expressed joy and tasked the new Chairman to do more.
Mr. Johnson Ugboma who claimed to have been a commercial motorcycle rider for the past ten years said this is the happiest day of his life in the work.
He said he knew that a day would come when the sales of ticket
would come to an end. His word, “For the past ten years that I have
been doing this job (Okada riding), I have never been this happy in
the job. I have always been telling those that care to hear that one
day, government would put an end to the sales of this illegal ticket.
Thank God it had happen today”.
Another okadaman, Mr. Oghenekparobo who claim to be a graduate of
Delta State, thanked the chairman for the kind gesture. He however
used the opportunity to call on the government to create more jobs
because this (Okada riding) is not their dream work.
