Delta Govt Honours Ese Brume, Others On 30th Anniversary

LAGOS AUGUST 28TH (URHOBOTODAY)-Olympics bronze medallist Ese Brume was honoured by the Delta State Government as the state celebrates its 30th-year anniversary on Friday (today).
Brume joins swimmer Timpamere Akiayefa and 16 other Delta sons and daughters in the Award and Gala Night billed for The Event Centre, Asaba, the state capital, on Friday.
Brume was Nigeria’s only medallist in athletics at the 2020 Olympics, snatching a bronze medal in the women’s long jump.
Akiayefa of Team Delta also created two new festival records in women’s 50m butterfly and the women’s 50m backstroke events at the Edo 2020 National Sports Festival, winning a total of five gold and five silver medals.
Honoured along with the duo are former finance minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Ijaw leader Chief Edwin Clark, Vanguard publisher Sam Amuka-Pemu, former Zenith Bank CEO Jim Ovia and former UBA CEO Tony Elumelu.
Others are former President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Ayo Oritsejafor; ex-foreign affairs minister, Joy Ogwu; retired Professor of History, Obaro Ikime; first Nigerian female Vice-Chancellor, Grace Alele-Williams; former University of Benin VC, Emmanuel Nwanze; comedian Atoyota Akpobome popularly known as Ali Baba and producer Michael Ajereh (Don Jazzy).
Late nationalist Mukoro Mowoe, former Senate President late Dennis Osadebay and former Deputy Premier of the defunct Midwest Region James Otobo will also receive post-humous awards.
Delta State was created by then Military President, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, on August 27, 1991 out of the then Bendel State.
