2015 Governorship: Delta Professionals in Diaspora Endorse Speaker, Ochei

Speaker Delta State House of Assembly Hon Victor Ochei

LAGOS JUNE 30TH (URHOBOTODAY) A group of young professionals of Delta State extraction in the United Kingdom has thrown its weight behind the reported governorship ambition of the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Victor Ochei.
The group, Delta Young Professionals in UK (DYPUK), said in a statement signed by its leader, Mr Chris Obasohan, that the resolution of the professional body to encourage Ochie’s candidacy was based on their close assessment of the Speaker’s sterling leadership and efforts on sound legislation which have deepened good governance in Delta State.

Obasohan stated that it was high time “the leadership at various levels of governments in Nigeria realised the importance and inputs of the Diaspora population towards socio-economic and political progress of the country.”
“The increasing development now experienced in many developing economies and emerging markets of the world is being made possible partly by the enormous contributions of the citizens of those countries who reside outside of their various nations and have been motivated by their home-goverments’ policies that identify and attract Diaspora influences in achieving greater goals for their countries.
“Having observed the development in Delta State very closely and the roles of several political actors in the affairs of the resource-rich state of Nigeria where all of us at DYPUK have our root, we have come to the empirically proven conclusion that the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Victor Ochei, is undoubtedly one of the few politicians who genuinely have the interest of the State at heart.
“Therefore we are endorsing his shot at Delta’s gubernatorial race in the next election on the account of his sterling performance at the State legislative arm of government and promotion of pro-people bills amongst other achievements noted by DYPUK,” the statement said.
