LAGOS AUGUST 16TH (URHOBOTODAY)-President-General of Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) Chief {Major General} Patrick Newton Aziza (rtd) died this morning. .
The news of the dead of the retired Major General came as a suprise to the Urhobo nation as they less expected him to depart from this earth as at the time that they needed him most.
Until his death today, he was the serving President General of Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) an umbrella body for all Urhobo sons and daughters.
The news of Aziza who was born in Okpe local Government Area in Delta State on 23 December 1947 death of started circulating across Urhoboland and social network (most especially facebook) from the early hours of today.
Aziza was the first military Governor of Kebbi State, Nigeria after it was split off from Sokoto State on 27 August 1991 during the military regime of General Ibrahim Babangida.
The cause of his death is yet to be know by Urhobotoday because all means to reach his family members and UPU leadership has proven abortive as at the time of filling this report.
General Aziza was rulling a second tenure as President General of UPU after securing 301 votes to beat his opponent, Chief O.C. Majoroh who scored 224 votes in an election that was held at Ultra Modern Urhobo Cultural Centre, Uvwiamuge, Delta State late last year.
He was suppose to rule for three years after winning the election The election that was conducted by an Electoral Committee headed by the Independent Electoral (INEC) Commissioner of Cross River State, Barr. Mike Igini
