Dangote Truck Kills Eight in Zambia as Officials Lament Excesses of Drivers

DANGOTE
LAGOS AUGUST 5TH (URHOBOTODAY)-No fewer than eight people died on the spot on Wednesday, after a Dangot truck rammed into a stationary Toyota Hiace minibus which was offloading passengers at Kapiri Mposhi. Zambia’s Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) said it was caused by the driver of the truck who had misjudged the distance when overtaking.
The road crash involved three vehicles. The accident investigations established that the driver of the Dangote truck was over speeding, and tried to overtake the two vehicles in front of him but failed after seeing an oncoming vehicle on the opposite lane, resulting into the truck hitting a car from behind forcing it off the road.
The truck went ahead and hit into another minibus. Another accident involving a Dangote truck was also recorded last night on Great North road, and 3 people sustained serious injuries and are in critical condition with the driver being unconscious.
This is contained in a statement made available to the media by RTSA Head Public Relations, Frederick Mubanga.
Mubanga has said that the Agency is concerned with the number of road traffic crashes involving Dangote trucks in the past few months.
He said the Agency will be engaging the company concerning their deteriorating road safety record.
