Cultists on Recruitment Drive Invade Delta State University

LAGOS JANAURY 16TH (URHOBOTODAY)-The Vice Chancellor of Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, Professor Victor Peretomode has raised the alarm that cults from other tertiary institutions across the country were planning to invade DELSU with the sole aim of recruiting unsuspecting students for initiation into various cult groups.
Speaking during the matriculation of 5654 students for the 2015/2016 academic session on Friday, Peretomde said as part of their initiation rituals, would be members are subjected to all kinds of degrading and abusive activities which include rape, drinking of all manners of concoctions and taking blood oaths.
Describing the University as one of the centres of academic excellence which had become an attraction for candidates seeking admission into tertiary institutions as well as those seeking for inter university transfer, Peretomode advised the new students to be diligent in their academic work and be honest in the pursuit of their dreams in DELSU, imploring the matriculating students to avoid being captives of the social network media.
He urged the matriculating students to shun all forms of vices that would jeopardize the completion of their studies and the attainment of their life dream.
The VC stated that the university takes serious exception to issues that border on indiscipline and lawlessness particularly when such actions involve violence, cultism and breach of peace, examination malpractice, indecent dressing and any kind of actions that come under broad classification of breach of matriculation oath.
According to him, ” Peace is paramount to meaningful academic pursuit and it is on this score that this University has waged and will continue to wage a relentless war against the nefarious activities of cults on the campuses. For the avoidance of doubt cultism on campuses of this University is banned and remains banned. Any student found to belong to any cult will be shown the way out. ”
Peretomode disclosed that some registered students’ associations have been infiltrated by cultists who use such bodies as a cover for pursuing vendetta against their perceived opponents.
He revealed that the University authority searchlight is being beamed on these organisations with the aim of flushing out the miscreants.
The relevant matriculation oaths were administerd on the students by the Registrar of the University, Mr Daniel A. Urhibo.
