Cote D’Ivoire Bans Skin Bleaching Creams
LAGOS MAY 7TH (URHOBOTODAY)-Cote D’Ivoirien health department has banned skin-whitening creams due to the accrued threat it poses to health.
“Cosmetic lightening and hygiene creams … that depigment the skin … are now forbidden,” the ministry said in a statement.
The ban includes: whitening creams and lotions containing mercury and its derivatives, cortisone, vitamin A or more than two percent hydroquinone.
That supposedly also includes Dencia’s whitenicious cream even though the producer claims it does not contain harmful chemicals.
Altogether, it sounds like a good law for public health protection, but people will undoubtedly always find a way to use whatever they like.
At the end of the day, this law may only create a new market for smuggling.
