Asaba Vehicle Owners Express Concern over Car Battery Theft
LAGOS MAY 15TH (URHOBOTODAY)-Angry residents of Asaba, the Delta State Capital, especially vehicle owners, have expressed concern over the increasing rate of car batteries theft in the city, and have sought God’s intervention to expose those behind the crime.
Our investigation revealed that the thieves, who carry out their nefarious activities with no trace of tampering with the door locks of their victims’ cars, neatly open the bonnet before stealing the battery.
The matter, according to investigation, has become almost a daily nightmare with innocent and unsuspecting vehicle owners losing their batteries to such thieves.
Two weeks ago, the battery thieves gained entry into a fenced compound along Governor’s Street and stole the batteries of four vehicles, including that of a civil servant attached to the Ministry of Information.
And, last week, they stole no fewer than three car batteries from three compounds. at Agric Road.
One of the victims who does not want his name in print said: “I woke up in the morning to see the bonnet of my car wide open and I told myself, these people have visited us. l got close to the car only to discover that my battery was gone.”
At the Direct Labour Agency area of the state capital, the residents who have continued to live in fear of the battery thieves said the way car batteries are removed remains a mystery to them. Every night, not fewer two compounds are visited by the thieves.
At Izuka Okolo Lane, DLA, the residents appealed to security agents to provide them security before the situation gets out of control.
