Surprise: Kidney of 23 Years Old Disappears After Operation

LAGOS AUGUST 11TH (URHOBOTODAY)-It all started like tales by moonlight.
A certain Isa Hamma of Chaffa Jaule village in Fufore Local Government area of Adamawa state presented himself at the Jimeta Clinic and Maternity for treatment.

After diagnosis, he was issued with drugs and discharged and then asked to come back after three days for follow up.
According to the elder brother, Mallam Umaru Isa Yahaya, they came back for the follow up on the appointed date.
Then, the doctor handling the case at the clinic, Doctor Yakubu Hassan, after clinical observation, told them that the ailment require surgical operation if they can afford to pay N50,000,00.
He said they went and mobilized the money and the surgery was carried out.
However the victim could not urinate, resulting to swelling of his body.
“On seeing the condition of the patient, he [the (Doctor] referred us to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, on account that the case is beyond his limit,” he said.
Yahaya added that at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, the medical personnel said “kidneys of the victim was removed after he underwent surgical nephrectomy at the Jimeta Clinic.
“And [that he] can only survive if another kidney was [trans]planted on him, or depend on hemodialysis.”
He then referred them to Federal Medical Centre Yola on account of its proximity.
He stated that they now spend not less than N40, 000, 00 on weekly basis for the dialysis at the Federal Medical Centre Yola and solicited for assistance from well-spirited individuals to enable the patient continue surviving on dialysis.
Contacted on the issue, the Doctor who handled the case at the Jimeta Clinic, Doctor Yakubu Hassan confirmed that the said patient was operated for ailment that has nothing to do with kidneys.
He said based on the nature of the case he referred them to a Consultant at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe.
“I did not carry out surgical nephrectomy, because I was [not] qualified to do that and I have never carried out such nature of the operation.” he said
However, the Federal Medical Centre Gombe in a letter with reference no: FTHG/MED/DP/216 dated 2nd August, 2016, signed by Dr. Abubakar M.S sent to the Consultant Nephrologist, Federal Medical Centre Yola said:
“The above named presented to our facility a week ago with 19 days history of Anuria following a surgical nephrectomy at Jimeta Clinic Yola on 8th July 2016.
“He presented with abdominal pain and horse shoe shaped kidney which has rendered the patient with no kidneys and now dependent on hemodialysis for survival”.
The letter urged “Adamawa state Commissioner Ministry of Health through the Director Medical services for investigation and disciplinary action” in view of this gross malpractice/misconduct.
