LAGOS JULY 4TH (URHOBOTODAY)-Little Buhari, the one month old baby who genital was severed by his step mother may grow up without a functional organ.
Dr. Ibrahim Abdullahi who is taking care of Buhari at the IBB Specialist Hospital, Minna, said his penis has already been damaged and shrunken and that there was no way that it can be transplanted to its normal position. He said the medic will however, try their best to ensure that Buhari survives and lives a normal life.
Little Buhari, who was named after President Muhammadu Buhari, had his genital cut off by his jealous stepmother who stole him from the room when his mother went to the bathroom.
Bara’atu Muhammad, the stepmother, who arrested by the Niger State Police command after the incident had confessed that she committed the act because the baby’s mother insulted her.
“I decided to do that in retaliation to insults I’ve been receiving from his mother.
“Anytime I complained to our husband, he will not take action. That was the major reason I used our kitchen knife to cut off his penis,” Bara’atu said.
She has been arraigned before a magistrate’s court and remanded in Minna prison, pending the conclusion of investigations.
The Niger State government has in the meantime promised to take care of Buhari’s medical bills.
Independent recalled that 25 year-old Bara’atu, a second wife to one Mohammed Rabiu, had last week cut off her stepson’s penis and tried to run away before she was apprehended by neighbours.
She was believed to have committed the crime out of jealousy.
Mohammed was said to have married Bara’atu after his first wife did not conceive after nearly seven years of marriage.
However, the first wife took-in soon after her husband married a second wife and gave birth to a baby boy when she was due.
Malam Rabiu was said to have became exceedingly happy with the arrival of the baby boy and named him Buhari, after President Muhammadu Buhari.
Sources said that Bara’atu became envious of the first wife, who she believed Mallam Rabiu was giving too much attention.
