Ijaw Youth Council has Lost Focus, Says Ex-Scribe
LAGOS JUNE 19TH (URHOBOTODAY) Former Secretary of Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, Western Zone, Mr. Paul Bebenimibo, yesterday, said that the current leaders of the group had lost focus and advocated a caretaker committee to run its affairs.
Speaking to Vanguard in Warri, Delta State, he said: “IYC has outlived its usefulness because those at the helm of affairs have politicised the body and created many organs that contradict the council’s set objectives.
“A caretaker committee should be immediately constituted to examine the many conflicting structures on ground.
“Sometimes, the executive will say something, parliament will say a different thing and the Board of Trustees will go in another direction. Now, they have introduced committee of past leaders.
“Some of us do not have faith in the council. How can they set up an electoral committee that has members of the current body, Ijaw National Congress, INC, as members?
“The chairperson of the committee, Ankio Briggs, is a member of INC and she contested in the last election. Another member, Alaowei James, also contested for a position in the last INC election.
“What I am saying is that IYC has lost focus, otherwise, how can members of the INC be called to conduct election for an organisation they do not belong?”
