Four Houses Collapse, Million Naira Property Destroy as Rain Wrecks Havoc in Warri, Sapele
LAGOS JUNE 13TH (URHOBOTODAY)-No fewer than four buildings collapsed and property worth millions of naira destroyed in Warri, Delta State following a three-day downpour in the oil city.
Our source gathered that the downpour experienced in the city from Monday to Wednesday caused serious damage to buildings across the state.
The impact of the torrential rains was mostly felt around Okumagba Avenue, Okere axis and the notorious Marine Quarters, which some affected residents have already vacated.
It was also a sorry sight in Effurun, an adjoining town to Warri. The popular Effurun Market and some buildings had their roofs blown off.
At Marine Quarters, which is prone to flooding, dangerous reptiles invaded houses and caused pandemonium.
A middle-aged man, who did not know he had been living with a snake for two days, was bitten. He was rushed to a nearby clinic for treatment.
Also, in Sapele, major areas, including Yoruba, Okpe and Ogorode roads as well as adjoining streets were completely flooded. Several buildings were also submerged.
A resident, Pa Oghenejabopr Okiemute, described the downpour in the “Boma city” of Sapele as the worst in recent times.
“Almost a year ago, Delta State Government came to Sapele to clear the debris but they did not do a proper job. Sadly we are suffering it now,” the octogenarian regretted.
