Asaba: FADE Dedicates Garden of 95 Trees to Mandela At 95
LAGOS JULY 17TH (URHOBOTODAY) – A non-governmental organisation, Fight against Desert Encroachment (FADE), said it will be joining the rest of the world in celebrating the United Nations International Mandela Day on Thursday, July 18 at the grounds of the Mandela Garden of 95 Trees inside the Asaba International Airport, Asaba, Delta State.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, FADE said : “ We encourage individuals to donate 67 minutes of their time in celebrating Nelson Mandela where each minute represents the 67 years of his life spent selflessly propagating the message of justice and freedom.
“Mandela Day is a celebration of our collective power to do good, be selfless and make an imprint on the world. Individuals are invited to come and volunteer at the Mandela Garden of 95 Trees in Asaba on July 18 where there are ongoing works in creating the Garden which is due for commissioning in August 2013.
“They can help lay walkways, plant and water trees in honor of Mandela and also help clear the surroundings of debris and waste.
“The Mandela Garden of 95 Trees is to commemorate Nelson Mandela’s 95th birthday. The conceptual design of the garden is the shape of Africa, containing a life-size monument of Nelson Mandela, 95 trees planted strategically in the Map of Nigeria, South Africa and _Robben_ Island mini–gardens, well-landscaped terraced fences made of hedge plants, concrete walkways, Nelson Mandela playground and park for children, state-of-the-art restrooms and adequate parking.
“Members of the Nelson Mandela family led by Ndaba Mandela, the Chairman of Africa Rising Foundation, will be present to flag off the planting of the trees at the launch of the Mandela Garden of 95 Trees in Nigeria by August 2013.
“We hope by joining in the celebration, Nelson Mandela’s ideals of a life of service to humanity by developing a culture of helping others will be imbibed.”
