Angry Soldiers Shoot GOC on Sighting Corpses of Soldiers Killed in Chibok’s Ambush

LAGOS MAY 14TH (URHOBOTODAY)-General Officer Commanding newly created 7 Division of Nigerian Army, Major General Ahmed Mohammmed Wednesday escaped death by the whiskers as angry soldiers under his command fired shots at him.
The GOC’s visit to the commanded coincided with the arrival of the corpses of soldiers killed in an ambush in Chibok on Tuesday night.
“The apparently agitated soldiers, on sighting the corpses of their slain colleagues became hysteric. Some opened fire on the GOC, who was lucky to have escaped unhurt. However, the bullets hit and seriously injured some of his bodyguards, who also fled to safety,” the source offered.
Wednesday’s mutiny, which occured in Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri, Borno State capital, may be the biggest “friendly” blow yet on Nigerian Army’s war against Boko Haram terrorists.
However, Mohammed’s bodyguards and aides were not so lucky as they sustained gunshot wounds from angry soldiers.
Maimalari cantonment is headquarters of 7 Division, the newest Division of Nigerian Army.
Military sources told Pointblanknews.com that before the killing of the soldiers in Chibokj’s ambush that soldiers at the cantonment had been complaining of insufficient ammunition, food and good allowances prior to the GOC’s visit.
They were also reportedly unhappy and their morale at its lowest because there has not been troop rotation for a long time since their deployment to combat Boko Haram terrorists in the North East.
The Army High Command could not be immediately reached for reaction.
