Power Outage: Delta Lawyer Sues Benin Electricity Distribution Company For N50m

LAGOS JUNE 2ND (URHOBOTODAY)-A Delta State based lawyer practicing his trade at Udu Local Government Area of the State , Mr. Oghenejabor Ikimi, has dragged the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) to court over continued epileptic power supply in his area.
He is asking for N50 million damages from the DISCO for failing to provide electricity to him for no cogent reason.
Oghenejabor Ikimi had on 31st day of May, 2016, at the High Court Registry, Otor-Udu, filed a law suit against the Benin Electricity Distribution Company Plc., in Suit No: OUHC/98/2016, Oghenejabor Ikimi, Esq., vs. Benin Electricity Distribution Company Plc for the company’s alleged refusal to provide him electricity.
In the suit, “Ikimi (Claimant) is the BEDC (Defendant’s) customer with pre-paid Electricity Meter with No: 04234087635 and Account No: 0423407635 at No. 2, Divine Close, Off Izomo Road, Ovwian, Delta State, a place within the jurisdiction of the Court.
He also made a declaration in the suit that the deliberate refusal of the Defendant to provide electricity to the Claimant for no cogent reason in spite of the Claimant’s credit of over 290 units unspent in his account is a wrongful act.
He added that the sum of N50,000,000.00 (Fifty million naira) is the damages suffered by the claimant and his immediate family as a result of the wrongful acts of the defendant.
