Delta:After Six Months in Darkness, BEDC Asks Urhobo Community to Buy Transformer
LAGOS AUGUST 25TH (URHOBOTODAY)-The residence of Ghanvwan axis of Orhuwhorun Road, off Udu local government area, Delta State is appealing to government authority and well meaning Nigerians to assist them to appeal to Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) to restore electricity to their area.
A representative of the community, Mr Ovuoke Kelvin who spoke to Urhobotoday, an online medium lamented that for the past six months there have been in darkness as a result of faulty transformer, adding that despite that the absent of light there is continuous submission of light bills by BEDC authority.
“It is a routine for the power companies to provide light to its customers in a normal circumstance. It is also the duty of the power companies to fix faulty power lines and transformers, but our case is now taking a different dimension. Six months ago, the 500kva tranaformer feeding Ghanvwan axis of Orhuwhorun road of Udu local government area went down. After about a month of engineering test, it was confirmed that the transformer is completely bad. All effort for BEDC to replace the transformer has met brick wall as the manager of Warri business unit of BEDC has told the residents to go and buy transformer as there is none present to replace the faulty one.
“He insisted that if we do not do what he said, we will be in darkness forever. We taught this era of privatization of distribution of electricity and change mantra of APC, it is the electricity distribution company that is saddle with responsibility of providing transformer and repairs of faulty equipments, while our duty is to comply with payment of bills. Ironically, while we are in darkness, the staff of BEDC is supplyting electricity bill steadily. What type of oppression is this?” frustrated Kelvin lamented, just as he appealed to the management of BEDC to urgently do something about their plight.
