Delta Journalists Honour Okolugbo for Contributing to Community Dev

LAGOS NOVEMBER 22ND (URHOBOTODAY)-The commissioner representing Ndokwa Nation in the board of DESOPADEC has received Delta NUJ distinguished service award for his outstanding contributions to community development and socio-empowerment in delta state. Sir Kenny Okolugbo fondly called Mr. Project was honored today amongst other dignitaries at Nelrose Hotel Asaba, as the Nigeria Union of Journalists Delta State Council, celebrates her Press Week.
Presenting the award to Mr. Project onbehalf of the NUJ by the Secretary of the Delta state Government, Comrade Ovuzourie Macaulay said ” on behalf of NUJ, Delta State council, I present this distinguished service award to you for your outstanding contributions to community development and socio- empowerment in Delta state”.
Within his short stay in office as DESOPADEC commissioner representing Ndokwa nation , Sir. Kenny Okolugbo has commissioned more DESOPADEC projects than any other commissioner that Ndokwa nation has ever produced. He has before now empowered youths and women in different categories, which according to him is ‘ in tandem with Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan’s human capital agenda.
In accordance to the state government’s three point agenda, Sir. Kenny Okolugbo through DESOPADEC has attracted democracy dividends to his people and deltans at large; which has endeared him this award and recognition by the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Delta state council.
Some of these projects include; solar-powered street light projects at Umuebu, Okuzu and Umuaja; and 40,000 litres solar-powered water project at Eziokpor; constructed and renovated classroom blocks, constructed and fully equipped ICT centre and libraries, roads, antenatal clinic, cottage hospital, health centres, and market stores, street light projects in Okuzu Quarters and Obiaroku Market Road in Obiaruku as well as Umutu; while major road projects include the construction of Second Phase of Hospital Road, Umutu, and the Oguna Obi-Ogene Road Project, Umuaja road project amongst others.
Moreover, Okolugbo has also given some attention to transportation by empowering several youths with the donation of tricycles. He has also provided step-down transformers and purchased Hilux vans to boost the police in their crime-fighting efforts.
Also in Ebedei Grammar School, located in the first oil host community in Ukwuani, where an eight classroom block has been completed and fully furnished.
Construction of modern science laboratories and libraries in some schools in Ndokwa nation amongst others in consonant with the state government’s three point agenda of Peace and security, Human capital development and special infrastructure.
Others awardees that received various awards from the NUJ for outstanding performance are: Rt. Hon. Basil Ganagana, deputy speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Barr. Chike Ogeah, Hon. Commissioner for Information, Chief Ominimini Obiuwevbi, commissioner representing Ethiope East/Ughelli North on the board of DESOPADEC, NFF President, Mr. Amani Pinnick , Hon. Ben Ibakpa, delta state transport commissioner and others.
