Urhobos Bid Aziza Farewell, Urges Uduaghan to Achieve his Vision of Urhobo Governor
LAGOS OCTOBER 11TH, (URHOBOTODAY)-Friday, October 11th, 2014, will ever remain in the memory of Nigerians, Deltans and mostly the Urhobos as the remains of President-General of Urhobo Progress Union (UPU), Chief (Major-General) Newton Patrick Aziza (RTD) was laid to rest in his home town, Adagbrasa, Okpe LGA, Delta State.
UPU also used the opportunity to appeal to Delta State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan to fulfill the vision of Late Aziza which is the provision of an Urhobo ‘Governor’ for Delta State in 2015.
UPU Secretary-General, Chief Fred Akpomudje (SAN) speaking on behalf of UPU Acting President General, Chief Joe Omene, described the death of Aziza as a falling ‘Iroko tree’ whose vacuum would be difficult to fill.
He ascribed the sacrifice of Aziza for Urhobos to that of Jesus Christ who died for the sin of the people of the world.
According to him, “Urhobo had lost a great leader in the person of Chief Patrick Newton Aziza. We did not know if we can fill the vacuum. He is humble, calm, gentle and will not enforce his will on anyone despite that he has the power to do so. He will always want to go with the choice of the masses. “
Akpomudje expressed his sincere gratitude to Delta State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan for the assistant he offered to Patrick Aziza and his family and by extension to UPU during his ill health challenges and after his demise.
“Permit me at this point to specially thank Delta State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan for his assistant. When we noticed his failing health you gave your assistant. After his death, you did not only assist, but you were personally on ground to supervise the arena for the burial ceremony,” Akpomudje affirmed.
Akpomudje, however, appealed to Uduaghan that the best thing he could do for Aziza so that his soul would rest in perfect peace is to assist Urhobos to achieve Aziza vision which he was not able to achieve before his death.
Although, Akpomudje did not mention the Urhobo vision Aziza did not achieve in practical term, which he wanted Uduaghan to accomplish, but it is a known fact that the vision which Aziza could not achieve for the Urhobos before his demise is nothing else but “Urhobo being the governor of Delta State”. Urhobotoday guess is as good as yours.
