UPU CRISIS: How Omene Escapes Angry Urhobo Youths Attack at Uvwiamuge?

LAGOS DECEMBER 3RD (URHOBOTODAY)-The crisis rocking Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) Headquarters as a result of election of new executives seems to be getting worst every day.
The recent one is alleged attack and destruction of canopies, tables and chairs by aggrieved urhobo youths who stormed UPU Headquarters, Uviamuge, near Agbarho, Delta State protesting against the conduct of the election.
The youths reported to have stormed the premises of the Headquaters of UPU yesterday just before the voting process to disrupt arrangements put on ground towards the UPU EXCO elections.

The youths, who were reported to be brandishing dangerous weapons and singing solidarity songs threaten to deal with Omene should he insists in conducting the election.
They advised him to live the premises of the secretariat UPU, stressing that Urhobo do not want him as President General of UPU. They advised him to hands off the election processes so as to create peaceful environment for conduct of the election.
The peaceful protest under the watchful eyes of security personnel became uncontrollable as the youths started destroying the canopies, chairs and table set outside the premises as well as warning delegates to stay clear of the election or the conenue hence there is a court injection suspending the election.
The restive Urhobo youths went straight into the secretariat complex in search of Omene but before then Omene was reported to have got hint of the attack and consequently escaped through the back doors. Even with, youths who saw him living pattered his convoy with stones and pure water.
The upneavals created by the aggrieved Urhobo youths consequently made the law enforcement agencies in Delta State to sealed up UPU Headquarters at Uvwiamuge and the secretariat Okere, Warri.
The crisis started when some of the candidates and other stakeholders who were not satisfied by the delegate list for the election, approached a High Court for a order to bar Chief Omene for contesting the election and equally suspending the election until their request is look onto. Thus, when they allegedly failed to secure the nod of the court, some Urhobo youths mobilized to the.venue of the election, in what they termed “mission to rescue Urhobo” to abort whatever plans that was put in place for the election.
Speaking after the escape, Omene who blamed the police for sealing up the premises boasted that the UPU constitution empowered him as the President-General to extend my his tenure for two years with the sealing up of the UPU center, but insisted on testing his popularity in the polls.
The achieve his objective, Omene diverted the few delegates that attended to his personal residence at Oghara, where he was reported to have conducted an election declaring himself the President-General elect of UPU.
