Senator Okowa’s N2m Tears Delta State Student Unionism Apart

Senator Ifeanyi Okowa

LAGOS FEBRUARY 19TH (URHOBOTODAY)-Two million Naira alleged to have been used by a member representing Delta North in the House of Senate and Delta State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirants in 2015, Senator Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa to bribe officials of the Joint Campus Committee (JCC) and National Association of Nigerians Student (NANS) so as to impose his candidate as the Secretary General of the union had split the rank and file of Delta State chapter of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and almost disrupted the election of new executive of Delta State JCC/NANS.
Urhobotoday reliably gathered that problem started at the student body convention which took place in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) hall at the Delta State University (DELSU) Oleh Campus when one Comrade Osadebe Uche alleged to have been in student unionism for over twenty years alleged that Senator Okowa wants Collins Ogbe who had initially obtained and filled a formto contest for the position of Secretary-General and was also screened by the Local Organising Committee (L.O.C.) and State Security Service (SSS) should be allowed to contest for the position of the Chairman of Delta State of NANS.
The purported request by Osadebe Uche and alleged attempt to bribe member of L.O.C. and SSS with N2m allegedly given to him by Okowa so as to change situation of things met stiff resistance from delegates and those opposed to it as they insisted that Collins Ogbe should contest for the position he was initially screened to contest.
Our correspondent reliably gathered that before the election, Okowa was alleged to have released huge amount of money for his boys to buy delegates, security and the L.O.C. members to enable Collins Ogbe contest and win the election as the Chairman of Delta State chapter of NANS. This, according to our source, would enable Okowa to mobilize Nigeria students and youths towards his 2015 gubernatorial election.
It was reported that when Okowa’s boys effort to install their master’s stooge as NANS Chairman proved abortive, they decided to create confusion during the electoral process and in that process declared a faction of Ogbe Collins, NANS Delta Chapter in order to please their boss.
Urhobotoday investigation however, revealed that Ogbe Collins, the alleged Okowa’s candidate was a former Student Union Government (SUG) President of College of Education, Warri and presently not a student of any higher institutions after graduation from the school, adding that he bought a form in Federal Government College of Education, Asaba in order to contest for the election. Unfortunately Ogbe Collins who had not been matriculated as a student of the school and whose application had not been admitted as a student, but claimed to be a year two student as stated in the form is not eligible to contest as either chairman or secretary-general of NANS.
However, there was no response from Senator Okowa either through telephone calls or sms message for him to state his own side of the allegation.
Both telephone calls and sms put up to Senator Okowa to sa
