Omo-Agege Vows to Fight Crime, Introduce Community Security Marshal, Create Employment If..(PICS)
LAGOS JULY 9TH (URHOBOTODAY) -Delta State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship aspirant, Obarisi (Barr.) Ovie Omo-Agege has vow to fight criminal activities of kidnapping, armed robbery and other vices in Delta State if elected governor of Delta State come 2015.
Making the vow while on a consultation visit to the country home of Senator Patrick Osakwe at Otagbe-Uno, Ndokwa-West LGA, Omo-Agege, former Secretary of State to Delta State Government (SSG) said if elected governor of Delta State his administration would introduce a strategy of community policing which would involve employment of unemployed graduates to be known as Security Marshal or Community Marshal to work in conjunction with the police in providing security in the nooks and crannies of Delta State communities.
Hear him, “My administration will come with a community policing strategy for the prevention of kidnapping and other vices in Delta State. We will bring all the unemployed youths from all communities who have graduated from higher schools, have them screened by the police, work with the police and provide registered arms for them. By so doing, there will not be any save haven for kidnappers because there is no where they will hide their victims as the Community Marshal will be on ground to smoke them out. If we have such people as the Community Marshall watching over these communities, there is nowhere for the criminals to operate. In essence, the programme will be providing jobs for the unemployed and also save guard life and property of the people of Delta State”
Omo-Agege who said he was not desperate to rule as being ascribed by some people, but has passion to govern his people so as to pay back to his people what they have made him to be in life, pointed out that the biggest security problem we have in this country is not Boko Haram but youth unemployment.
He maintained that if elected as Governor of Delta State, the fulcrum of administration would be the creation of jobs, adding that he would view his policy on the background of creating employment for the people of Delta State.
According to him, “If the youths are employed they will not have the time or think about kidnapping or robbing people. They will be engrossed in how to go about doing their work. There are those who have graduated for over 15 years who are unemployed and yet this is Delta State with so much resources coming in here. . Although, we condemned the criminal activities of our youths, but we also have to understand the underlying factor that it is because they do not have jobs. If they have jobs, they would be thinking of how to go to work instead of committing crimes.
Speaking further on job creation for the teeming unemployed youths of Delta State, Omo-Agege who said he is not a neophyte in governance hence he was once Commissioner and SSG, said if he elected he would key into Uduaghan’s prpgramme of ‘Delta Beyond Oil’ by moving beyond oil to agriculture.
“Also geared towards job creation, I want us to go back to agriculture. My next agenda is that we want to key into Uduaghan’s programme of Delta Beyond Oil. What I mean in effect is that we shall move beyond oil. After all before discovery of oil we were living very well on agricultural production. I will want us to take our mind away from the lazy culture of waiting for derivation fund to fund every activities and go back to what we know best which is agriculture. By so doing, we will be creating jobs for the people.
“Like what I said earlier, the government of our amiable Governor Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan had done so well on the issue of insecurity in Delta State as he has reduced crime to its minimal level. He has also performed creditably well in his three point agenda, but someone has to continue from where he stopped and take Delta State to the next level. The person is me, Obarisis Ovie Omo-Agege. My government will continue and conclude every project Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan started. There will not be any case of abandon projects.”
He, however, pointed out that he cannot achieve this lofty ideas without the support and backing of his leaders on which Senator Patrick Osakwe is one of them. He appealed to Osakwe and his people of Ndokwa nation to support him. He said although he is an Urhobo man, he is also from Aboh which is part of Delta North.
“People are saying Omo-Agege an Urhoboman cannot enter Delta North. They forget who I am? I am also from Delta North. The Asagba called me Anioma in Diaspora. With pride, I say we are from Aboh which is part of Anioma. I know that with your support I will win and I will come back again to this house to tell you my leader I have done it and how do we proceed?” Omo-Agege assured Senator Patrick Osakwe.
Responding, Senator Patrick Osakwe who described Obarisi Ovie Omo-Agege as a hard working man and member of the same political camp urged him to work more harder.
“This is your house. We know ourselves very very well. We belong to the same political camp. It is on record that in politics you must work hard. You have already started working hard. I will tell you to work harder and harder. Politics is not only about money. If you do not plan well, if you do not know the game the money will go into drain. I have to congratulate you on the courage at which you started this again. Politics is something you cannot stop until you get what you are looking for. So I do not have anything against your ambition.
“You started very well by saying the good work our governor has done. Anybody who condemns Uduaghan, I will not open my door for that person. To the best of my judgment,, Uduaghan has done very, very well in his style. He had brought peace to the state. There are things which you did not see. He had achieved hundred percent of that. It is not easy to rule Delta State. It is a miniature Nigeria. Delta is like a straight line which mathematicians have described as the shortest distance between two points but seen from different angles by different people.
“I want to also praise you for the quality of people you have pick to go round with you. The qualities of a good leader depend on the quality of those working with him. He has told you that he is also from Delta North. If it is Delta North turn one leg is there, if it not, one leg is also thee,” Osakwe disclosed.
