Omene, Other Officials Protest Dissolution of Urhobo Progress Union EXCO, Say It is Unconstitutional
LAGOS DECEMBER 13TH (URHOBOTODAY)-Olorogun Joe Omene, President General of Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) and other officials of the Union has described the purported dissolution of the Executive of the Union by 17 out of 24 Urhobo traditional Rulers and President General of some of the Kingdoms as not only laughable but unconstitutional.
In a communiqué signed by Omene and some members of his Executives including Chief Albert Akpomudje, National Secretary, Ovie Igho, Youth President, Hon. Justice Shakaro, Chief Mrs. Okenini Unuekwego, Chief Mr. Okenini, Chief V.E. Otomiewo, former National Secretary, among others made available to journalists after a marathon meeting at Uvwiamughe-Agbarho, they insisted that UPU is a duly registered corporate body which has a constitution that stated that no group of persons, no matter how highly placed or whatever they think or imagine of themselves have control over the UPU to arrogate to themselves the power to dissolve the National Executive of the Union.
According to the communiqué, “There is no provision in the UPU constitution for the dissolution of UPU Executive except through an election which holds once in every three years.”
Omene and his officials described those claiming to have dissolved the executive of UPU as “meddlesome interlope” stating that their tenure ends 1st week of December 2016.
While noting that they will protect the constitution of UPU, they equally added that those who claimed they dissolved the National Executive of UPU, “are group of people not recognized or provided for in the
constitution of the Union”
Omene led UPU disclosed that they know the “external forces with paid agents and enemies of Urhobo Nation who got peanuts to carry out the planned destabilization of UPU and their names and intent was use to induce them may soon be made public to the Urhobo people.”
They therefore called on the Urhobo people and general public to “disregard, discountenance and ignore the purported dissolution of UPU by group of persons not recognized by UPU constitution.”
However at the time of filing this report, no word has come from Chief Tuesday Onoge led faction of UPU.
Constitution or no constitution, the present EXCO have fallen short of expectation.Playing self and money politics.Isolated from the feelings and pains of those they lead.Vacate the seat honourably please.
If 17 out of 24 kingdoms are against you, then who are you leading?
The 17 traiditional rulers does not speak for their Kingdoms when it comes to UPU matters. Traditional rules can not desolve UPU EXECO not even their Kingdom Progress Union. Those so called 17 traditional rules are only trying their luck but they have failed.
IF 17 OUT OF 24 KINGS ARE IN ONE VOICE, THEN, THE REMAING 7 ARE THE POLITICAL KINGS WHICH PDP WANT TO USE TO DESTROL THE URHOBOS, MAKE WE RESPECT OUR KINGS AND ADHERE TO THIER DISOLUTION OF THE EXCO.
