Group Raises Alarm over Excesses of Police Officers in Delta State
LAGOS JULY 22ND (URHOBOTODAY)-Group under the aegis of Conference for the Actualisaton of Human Right has raises the alarm over the excesses of Nigerian police in Delta state.
The group in a statement signed by its National Coordinator Barr. Omes Ogedegbe, Esq. made available to Urhobotoday, an online medium, said they were disturbed over the activities of scurity men wearing uniform of the same textures of mobile police officers who go about terrorising innocent residents of Delta State in the pretense of combating crime.
The group argued that they could not pretend to be ignorant of the activities of these group of police officers with no identifiable credentials as Deltans were at a lost as to where they belong whether to the police mobile force or the regular police.
“We are particularly disturbed about the activities of these cliques of police hydra headed monster in Delta state code DRAGON which has its root verifiable marked in the various trucks by their acronym Dragon 16, 17 etc as the case may be.
“Their activities leave impression of connivance from the executive arm of government in Delta which seem to have a superfluous of security personnel within the police force with the most dreaded now security patrol which have never recorded any arrest of criminal save for been notorious in the molestation of innocent citizens of our dear state,” the group noted, stressing that the current happenings in the state was part of our reasons why they are firmly criticizing the state agitation for state police as atrocities been committed by politicians are carried out under police cover especially from officers code name security patrol.
They argued that their call is premised amongst other complaint on the incident of Saturday 13th July, 2014 wherein police officers in one of the several trucks marked security patrol attacked a tricycle fully loaded with passengers for no just cause and beat up the driver of the tricycle at the Effurun roundabout to a state of coma and disappeared thereafter.
The statement added that the innocent passengers comprising of a pregnant lady was also not spared the brutality from the said officers whose identity is not traceable save for their being driven in a van marked security patrol as identified by spectators.
“On another occasion, a citizen of our state was again arrest by the said team in a manner that smacks of abduction wherein everything monetary in his pocket were removed from him before he was thrown off the vehicle along the NPA express road having pretended to be taking their supposed suspects to the station in Warri Delta State,” the statement disclosed, adding that in view of the atrocities been perpetuated by the security personnel, it is only apposite that this group be disbanded or on the alternative their identity ought to be made visible to Deltans.
