Delta: Uvwie LGA Set-Up Measures to Forestall Future Crisis, Denies Casualty Report
LAGOS AUGUST 2ND (URHOBOTODAY)-The Management of Uvwie local government council has denied in strong terms rumour making the rounds that no fewer than three people lost their lives during the crisis that rocked parts of the the local government on Wednesday as a result of an attempt to forcefully takeover the control of Uvwie public motor park from the legal managers.
Appealing to the public to remain calm and go about their lawful duties, the Council Management assured that the Chairman of Uvwie LGA, Hon Henry Baro has set up the necessary machinery to forestall future re-occurrence of such ugly incidence in the local government area.
While reiterating status quo of Comr. Napoleon Adibu as the legally authorised Chairman of the Uvwie Public Motor Park Management Committee, Secretary of the Uvwie LGA, Mr. Julius Uvwie who lamenting the ugly incident pointed out that according to the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) in the fourth schedule, paragraph 1(e), the establishment and management of public motor parks lies within the purview of the Local Government Councils, hence the appointment of Adibu by the Uvwie council.
It would be recalled that there was breakdown of law and order in parts of the local government council area on Wednesday 29th as a result of leadership tussle over the control of the public motor park in Uvwie LGA leading to the drafting of the police and other security agents to the troubled spots.
The secretary of the Council advised the general public to remain calm and go about their lawful duties, adding that as a law abiding citizen, the Chairman of Uvwie LGA, Hon. Baro Henry Minabowanre has set-up measures to forestall a future reoccurrence of such ugly incident.
