Delta Elite Kick Starts Development Campaign in 25 Local Govt Areas of Delta State

LAGOS JANUARY 14TH (URHOBOTODAY)-A nonpartisan pressure group in Delta State, Delta Elite Movement (DEM) has kick started its community development campaign with the 25 local government council areas in the state.
The campaign which started with Isoko North Local Government Area, had the group visiting the council chairman, Hon. Emmanuel Egbabor at his office.
Applauding the council boss for citizen participatory mechanism in governance, coordinator of the group, Comrade Ogegere Enis during his address, described Isoko North as one out of the 25 councils to be ahead on youths, good governance and community development.
According to Enis, the group since its inception three years ago, has been engaged in youth capacity training programmes, peaceful elections awareness campaign, clean and healthy environment advocacy.
Urging the council to partner with it, Enis saide, “as agents of good governance for a proactive government-citizens interactive platform, the campaign which is tagged, “Local Government for Community Development in Delta State. Deltans; Who is your Local Government Chairman, what is he/she doing?” would raise the interest of Deltans in what is happening in the locality.
Speaking further, the group’s coordinator stated however that the campaign would encourage the locals to constructively contribute to the development of their area adding that as drivers of grassroot development, it is pathetic to note that the interest of the people have shifted to the state and federal government with absolute neglect on the local government as a veritable mechanism in development process.
