Delta: Commuters Stranded, Towns Cut-Off as Federal Bridge Collapses in Oshimili North

LAGOS JUNE 6TH (URHOBOTODAY)-The Illah-Ebu Bridge in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State has caved in.
The bridge, which links the oil rich state to neighbouring Edo State through Ukala-Uromi, also serves as a link route to the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
It finally collapsed four days ago, having stayed for over 60 years.
The Eagle Online gathered that the bridge was last patched 15 years ago by the Federal Road Maintenance Agency when it first lost friction.

Besides social and business activities that have been paralyzed on the road, the disaster has since stalled the ongoing construction of Utor Bridge.
The Chairman of Oshimili North Local Government Area, Innocent Esewezie, joined hundreds of commuters, who were trapped by the collapse of the bridge, to appeal to the Federal Government to urgently effect repairs.
The council boss, who paid an unscheduled visit to the scene, lamented the untold disruption of human and vehicular movement from Illah to Ebu and to Ukala and Uromi in Edo State, and largely to Abuja.
Esewezie said: “For now, there is no other alternative road to link Illah to Ebu and other communities.
“This is really a cut-off. “The collapse has prevented materials from being conveyed to Utor Bridge that is being constructed by the Federal Government to link Ebu to Uromi and further link the communities to Abuja.”
