Delta 2015: Urhobo May Settle for Consensus Candidate

LAGOS JULY 22ND (URHOBOTODAY)—AS the 2015 governorship election draw nearer, the leadership of Urhobo Progress Union, UPU, is not leaving any stone unturned in its bid to produce the next governor of Delta State.
The leadership of UPU, at a closed door meeting with all Urhobo gubernatorial aspirants, some Urhobo elected and political appointees of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, may have settled for a consensus candidate.

A UPU source, who spoke to Vanguard, said: “The meeting was very fruitful. We met with all relevant stakeholders as regards the 2015 gubernatorial election and we had earlier met with those of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
“In view of our declaration that the Urhobos will contest the 2015 gubernatorial election, we are earnestly working towards achieving a consensus candidate for the Urhobo nation and in doing this, we are mindful of not moving into opposition again.”
“So, far four of our sons, John Akwara, Chief Paulinus Akpeki, Obaisi Ovie Omo-Agege and Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi have consulted with the Urhobo nation. They are the ones that have told us of their intention to contest the 2015 governorship election.”
