Woman 50, Daughter 19, Arraign for Dumping Baby in Pit Latrine
A Katsina Senior Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday remanded one Amina Muntari,19 and her mother, Aisha, 50, for allegedly dumping a new-born baby into a pit latrine.
The Prosecutor, Mr Altine Ragiji, told the court that Amina was delivered a baby girl at the primary healthcare centre in Dandume Local Government Area of the state on Feb. 28.
Ragiji said that after Amina’s discharge from the health centre, she allegedly conspired with her mother to dump the baby into a pit latrine, which led to the baby’s death.
He said that Amina and her mother committed the offence because the delivery was done out of wedlock.
Ragiji said both the mother and daughter were, therefore, being charged with criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide, contrary to the provisions of Section 222 (sub-sections 1-6) of the Penal Code.
The Magistrate, Hajiya Maryam Hamdana, who adjourned the case to April 8 for further mention, ordered that the two be remanded in prison. (NAN)
