Warri Residents Commend Delta Govt. for Opening Blocked Drainage
By Christopher Odamah, Warri
Residents of the oil rich city of Warri, Delta State have commended the Delta State Government over the on-going opening of natural waterways, canal and blocked drainages in the area.
Some respondents, who spoke with our Correspondent acknowledged that the exercise led by the Delta State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan assisted by his Commissioner for Environment, Omare, would go a long way in protecting residents from embarrassment occasioned by each raining season.
They said that the effort of government is in direct responds to the plight of the residents, adding that they were convinced beyond reasonable doubt that the effort would not only open up the enironment but would bring about healthy living.
Comrade Festus Ofagbe, President, Delta Youths Council (DYC) commends the manner at which government has come up with the exercise this year compared to what they saw last year. He added that their effort this year is more aggressive.
According to him, “We are happy with what government is doing for us. It had shown that this government is interested in the plight of it’s people hence this proactive measure to protect the impending flood. It is okay.”
“This time around it is different from the last years own. The way I look at it they mean business. Like the drainage the one they did last year were few compared to this year own. And they have opened it up very well. We are grateful to the state over meant,” he stated.
Also speaking is Chief Peter Odafe Ajobo “the exercise is a nice one as it will go a long way in providing the conducive environment for healthy living. He however advised government o ensure that the major exit for the water should be well handled to enable smooth flow.”
The government should ensure that the source where this water should be going to be properly opened to enhance easy flow. If you clear it and there is nowhere to go the exercise will not be a good one.
In his words, “If it does not go out of the area it will be meaningless. If there is a major fire outbreak as ex-fire service man, you go to the base and handle it. What I am saying in essence is that the issue should be addressed from the exit where water will go into the Warri River since all the channels will be emptying into the river. We appreciate what they are doing.”
