Director General of Stock Exchange Commission (SEC),  Mrs. Arumah Otteh has commended the visionary disposition of  Delta State Governor,  Dr Emmanuel  Uduaghan toward women and children, noting that investment in a woman is investing in a community.

Otteh made the commendation recently after Uduaghan   conducted members of the Capital Market Committee led by her round some projects.. The members of SEC Committee  held retreat in Warri. Some of the projects visited were, Cavergina Primary School, Alderstown School of the Physically Challenged and  MCC Unit of the Warri Central Hospital.

Otteh who told our  correspondent that they were in Warri for their  annual Capital Market Committee retreat said the projects they visited  were particularly inspiring.

According to her, “ As you may know the State government came last year to establish a N100billion bond at the Capital market to help fast track infrastructure and social development. One of the things we find inspiring is what the amount that has been issued N50billion is being used for.

“This morning we have toured a number of the roads that are being dualized in Warri and we know that parts of the fund were being used for such projects, and also, we saw a lot of model primary schools. We are particularly impressed with the efforts he has concentrated in these schools. Not just the schools alone but one of the thing that we are particular about is broadening participation of the economy.

“We are particularly awed by the effort of the Governor of bringing and taking step to empower the physically challenged, deaf & dumb, the blind to have requisite skills that will make them fend for themselves. One of the inspiring aspect is building a special school for the physically challenged, the attention of caring for women and children is very critical and the governor has also excel well here, we commend him.”

Addressing the Committee earlier,  Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan disclosed that  Warri Central Hospital Maternal & Children Centre (MCC) will be ready by April, 2013, just as he promised that classroom congestion will soon become a thing of the past with the ongoing mass schools renovation and remodeling.

According to the Governor, “The MCC is a comprehensive project with four floors, wards, radiology laboratories, and theatres, it has a lift too. It is a specialist hospital; it should be ready by April next year.”

Uduaghan explained to the high powered committee that, “We have a minimum standard for our schools; there are toilets, water, football pitch, libraries, laboratories and ICT, recreational infrastructures as well as special training for our teachers.”

“We use to have congestion of about 180 students to a class but the standard is 40 per a class, we hope that in two years we would have overcome the congestion. Motivation for teachers is on, there is a special training for them too.”

Explaining further Uduaghan said that in order to meet the payment of primary school teachers, the state  has to release N600million monthly to augment what the local government councils are providing for payment of primary school teachers.
