LAGOS OCTOBER 25TH (URHOBOTODAY)-Delta Central Labour Party Senatorial candidate in the last election, Obaisi Ovie Omo-Agege has assured his teeming supporters that he will appeal against the judgment of National and State House Of Assembly Election Tribunal, Asaba, which struck out his case against his opponent Chief Ighoyota Amori of Peoples Democratic Party.
Making the pronouncement in a statement signed by his Directorate of Strategy Aruviere Martin Egharhevwa which was posted on Ovie Omo Agege Mandate Facebook page, he said the people of Delta Central voted enmass for him in the last election, stressing that the announced results of the election do not however reflect the expressed will of the people.
Hear him, “My dear people of Delta Central, we thank you all very, very much for your continuing support. Your resolve and elastic support has brought us thus far and we are confident will take us further.
“In the elections of March 28 and April 25, you all voted for Obaisi (Barr.) Ovie Omo-Agege to represent you – the good people of Delta Central at the Senate of Federal Republic of Nigeria. The announced results of the election, no doubt, do not reflect the expressed will of the people.
“We presented our final addresses on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 as expected at the National and State House Of Assembly Election Tribunal, Asaba. But unfortunately, the ruling of the tribunal yesterday is not what we expected.
“However, we are going to appeal the judgment, because we believe we have a good case. Ighoyota Amori knows the Urhobo people rejected him at the polls and we are determined to prove that at the Appellate Court. We are determined, more than ever before to ensure that only lawful votes are counted and the true winner, which we believe is Ovie Omo-Agege, is pronounced.
“We wish to use this opportunity to thank all party members, our supporters, and the good people of Delta Central for their loyalty, doggedness, steadfastness and commitment to change in the State.
“We call on all our supporters to remain calm, law abiding and go about their normal lawful businesses. You should be rest assured that we shall do everything legally possible to reclaim the stolen mandate.
“Thank you and God bless you.”
In another development, the Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Ovwigho Igbuya on Saturday praised the judges of the National and State House of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Asaba for upholding the election of Senator representing Delta Central senatorial district, Chief Ighoyota Amori.
He also praised the distinguished member of the Nigerian senate for his extraordinary leadership, accessibility to his constituency and support for Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.
“Chief Ighoyota Amori is a senator that is focused on his job” he said.
In a statement issued in Asaba by his chief press secretary, Mr. Henry Ebireri, the speaker said the victory of Amori at the tribunal was a great happiness for the entire people of the senatorial district.
“Amori’s victory is both historic and spectacular. It is the triumph of democracy and a clear sign of the trust and confidence that the people of Delta Central have in him”.
Labeling his victory as a great milestone in the development of the Urhobo nation, Igbuya applauded the judges for keeping Delta Central firmly on the road to development,
He commended the people of Delta Central who gave Chief Amori the mandate to articulate, defend and espouse their interests in the senate.
“Chief Ighoyota Amori is a blessing to the Urhobo nation, a reliable and dependable representative and a politician who is leading creditably with the interests of the masses as priority” the statement said.
Igbuya who also congratulated his colleagues urged National Assembly members from Delta State to continue to collaborate with the state government to enhance even and speedy development of the state.
