Delta State Earmarks N20b for Ughelli/Asaba Dual Carriage Way
The Delta Government has earmarked N20 billion for the construction of Ughelli/Asaba dual carriage way. The Commissioner in-charge of the Directorate of Special Infrastructure, Mrs Orezi Esievo, made the plan known during the directorate’s budget defence meeting with the state House of Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriation.
Ezievo said that the road project, which was ongoing, was awarded in 2008 and was divided into three sections and that N8 billion was approved for it in 2012.
“For section A of the project, the level of work done is about 18 per cent and because the contractor was not efficient, the state government decided to terminate the contract.
“Section B has recorded great improvement of about 60 per cent, while Section C is also ongoing and it has recorded about 15 per cent level of completion,’’ she said.
Esievo said that the directorate was also proposing N10 billion for the establishment of four new polytechnics.
She said that the polytechnics would be located in Sapele, and Abigborodo in Warri North Local Government Area.
She said the other two would be located in Bomadi Local Government Area and Aboh in Ndokwa East Local Government Area respectively.
The commissioner said contracts for two of the polytechnics had been awarded and works on their construction begun.
“The one at Abigborodo and Bomadi have not been awarded but the process is on and they would be awarded any moment from now,’’ she added.
Esievo appealed to the committee to appropriate more funds to enable the directorate to complete all ongoing projects.
Responding, Chairman of the Committee, Mr Daniel Mayuku, advised the directorate to ensure that the road projects were delivered before the end of the tenure of the administration.
Mayuku said the projects were important to the people of the state.
